MP3 Software

I used to prefer Windows Media Player 11 to iTunes. Now, the Zune software has actually surpassed WMP11, imo.

Others here will probably insist on Winamp, MediaMonkey or Foobar.

Ripping - Exact Audio Copy
Playback/tagging - Foobar2000
Tagging - tag&rename

Personally I hate Itunes and refuse to install it on any of my machines.

I use anapod from Redchair but the vista support is poor so I run an XP vm to run it, I think foobar has plugins that will allow you to load music too.

agree with this 100%

I also like dbpoweramp for its superior user friendliness and excellent versatility, however it will cost money for certain things.

I like MP3Tag better for tagging.

For some reason when I went to Vista, either Itunes or mediamonkey managed to reduce all asian song titles on my ipod to gibberish.
