mp3 "skips" or "hiccups"

i have a lot mp3's and occasionally they hiccup, getting stuck on a sounds segment and repeating it a few times. i've noticed this as well when i'm listening to live internet radio feed. i have a dsl line and i have the buffer set to 30 sec, since i thought this might be the problem, but it still happens occasionally. suggestions please.

I've noticed this happening when I have something else running that is hard drive/cpu intensive, such as CD burning. Take note of what else is running when it happens and see if there's a pattern.

in winamp, you can set the playing of mp3s to a higher priority. try setting that higher to solve the prob if you are doing some other light activities.

what soundcard and mobo are you running?
my sblive on epox 8k3a+(via kt333) sometimes stutters during heavy cd access, so it could be a sound blaster problem
actually, just go ahead and post full system specs and it should be easier to pick out the trouble spot

system config

pIII 900 mhz, dell
512 mb ram
santa cruz (?turtle beach) sound card
digital video card (ati)
flat panel monitor monitor

thanks for the input.

hmm..plenty of cpu power, plenty of ram, santa cruz should be solid
try dling latest chipset and soundcard drivers
