The Rio Karma supports Ogg, FLAC, WMA, and MP3.Originally posted by: yukichigai
Meh, I extracted all my stuff to Ogg so until someone makes a portable with Ogg support I have no opinions.
That's a shame. It's not indicative of all Karma's though. I'm not going to say mine has never hung, but it has been several months since it happened. I also had a corrupt music database the other day, but that was attributed to RioRad Explorer hanging while transferring then resuming. Overall though, the couple hangs I've had have not been more than minor annoyances that haven't detracted from the other great features of my Karma. I still highly recommend it. Just wish it had a longer warranty.Originally posted by: Doggiedog

Rio Karma www.riovolution.com - lots of reviews there for this player. I have this and it's great. Good sound, great features... but the reviews all cover this. Needs some kind of case though.
You also forgot to mention it crashes alot.
I don't know about the other MP3 players but my Karma crashes a heck of alot. In fact, this morning I ran down some stairs to catch a train and the Karma began skipping, rebooting and just acting erratic. I had to do a hard reset to get it working again.
You can use it for storage if you use the rio taxi software. It would've been nice if they had figured out a way to keep the ethernet port on the device so that you didn't need to carry around the dock to use it's ethernet capabilities.Originally posted by: Doggiedog
That's why I always keep a small paper clip with me at all times.
I'm moderately happy with it. I wish I could use the device for storage though. Seems like a waste not being able to.
Also, this thing really needs a case or a clip. That cheap cloth bag really doesn't do it. It would be nice if the battery was user replaceable too. I'm wondering what I'll have to do in a year or two when I need to replace it.
Well as I said, what's keeping me from the iPod is Ogg support. Does the Zen Touch have it?Originally posted by: fyleow
How can people seriously recommend the Ipod when it has horrible battery life? Try looking at the Nomad Zen Touch. It's got 24 hrs.

It's like how AOL is the most popular ISP and phlegMTV is so popular with children... there's no rational explanation. The iRiver kicks the iPod's rear end in everything except connection speed (firewire vs. usb2), including, as you mentioned, one of the most important factors - battery life. Those are the only two I've really looked at in-depth, since if I bought one (still on the fence, not sure...) it would have to follow the universal mass storage standard (no sense buying a $300-$400 hard drive that you can't use as a hard drive)
What else could you want?Originally posted by: nourdmrolNMT1

I got fed up with iTunes. I like the theory behind it, but it installs processes that run at startup. Processes you can't end from the Task Manager. If it was something important I'd be okay, but why does iTunes automatically install an iPodHelper process when I don't have one? Bleah.Originally posted by: misle
This morning, I was really thinking about getting a new 4G iPod 20GB, but after reading reviews and this thread, the iRiver H120 has moved into the lead. The Ogg support helps along with all the extra and I won't have to use iTunes on my PC. (I use iTunes at work on my Mac, but at home I much prefer Winamp.)
Nor am I, or I'd suggest the Dell or Creative models over the pricier iRiver. I prefer quality & features, most notably battery life and not having to use proprietary software to load songs and/or files onto it. When something has less features at a higher price however, it's hard to ignore the pricetag. I'd also have to disagree on the looks, if anything looks like it belongs to a ricer, it's the iPod.Originally posted by: iamwiz82
Not everyone is an ultra-cheap bastard only concerned with price.
