MP3 Player vs USB Drive

Hi guys,

I was thinking about getting a 1GB USB travel drive for my cousin for her birthday. This way she can transfer files between school and home. But then I heard that a MP3 player can also do the job for only $10 more. Is that true?
I am thinking about getting a Sansa 1GB MP3 M240 Player for her. But just want to make sure MP3 player can also do files transfer. Mostly Words or Excel files, may be some photos too.
