So the old Muvo TX-FM up and died after about three and a half years of service. Can't complain. Jostled around at the gym, sitting in a baking hot car during the day. May she rest in peace.
But, now that the mourning period is past, what's out there that's worth looking at? I'm looking for ease of use, something that is used exclusively while exercising. What do those in the know recommend?

What's in the $100 range? For best bang for the buck the Creative Zen 8Gb looks pretty good ($120), plus it's the only one of them that uses a standard SD memory expansion slot.

Another option might be Best Buy's 8GB Insignia Pilot. I'd give you a link, but BB's website seems to be b0rked at the moment. I've had one of these since last Christmas, and I really like it.

* 8GB built-in storage
* SDHC slot for additional storage space
- I'm using an 8GB A-Data Turbo card - $30+shipping at newegg - in it right now; works great
-the Insignia treats the card as an extension of the built-in space, so putting the player on 'random' shuffles all songs on the player, regardless of where they're stored. Creative's Zen doesn't do this; you have to play music from the built in storage or from the card; you can't combine the two.

* FM radio
* built-in bluetooth transmitter
* user-replaceable battery
* 2 headphone jacks
* computer sees player as a simple USB storage drive - no special software needed.
* uses a standard mini-usb connection

My only complaint would probably be that the headphone signal can be a bit weak. With actual headphones that's not a problem, but if you connect the player to an 'aux in' on a home stereo or vehicle head unit, you'll have to crank the volume a bit. Don't forget when you disconnect the player, or you'll blow your ears out when you switch back to the radio or CD player :p

EDIT: BB's site seems to be working now. I forgot about the price though: if you want to stay close to $100, you'll have to go with the 4GB version; the 8GB is closer to $150. There might be a coupon floating around that you could use on one of these to drop the price a bit, too.

The 8GB version is on sale for $99. I think I'll pick it up. Thx.

If you get it, let me know what you think. I like mine, but I didn't comment on the sound quality because that wouldn't be worth much - I do not have 'golden ears', to say the least :p
