Well, it looks like the fvcking piece of sh!t 10gig ipod 3rd gen bit the dust. I'm running diagnostics on it and I got a HDD FAIL error back on it. When I hook it up on any machine, it locks up and I can't format it. Plus, I think it's out of the year warranty. Great.

So, I need an MP3 player. Right now. I'm leaving for New York tomorrow and want to get something for the trip. I need something that has good quality, relatively small, and under $250 dollars.

Gogogo.

What stores do you have available locally?

Other deal site says that the Creative Nomad Zen Xtra (NOT Touch), 40 gb is going for $201 right now at WalMart.com. That does NOT mean that your Wal-Mart will have it, but it's worth a call.

(One rebate involved.)

i picked up the zen micro special edition from compusa (comes w/ a spare battery - 12h x 2). i love it so far, great features, good battery. you still can't beat the scroll wheel of the ipod, but oh well. overall, the zen micro is a better product IMO.

Why not a solid state based media, instead of HDD? I'll NEVER understand that. Christ, is there some rule that says you just have to carry around every single GD MP3 you've ever run across?

Apparantly, the OP CAN'T! Having a teenie hard drive in a portable anything, seems way too risky to me. If the interface is truly so intuitive, and easy, swapping out MP3 libraries should be a cinch. Battery life would be greatly extended as well...

yeah, if i was going to buy a portable MP3 player, i'd get a solid state one for this reason.

but i wouldn't buy one, because you can buy a CRAPLOAD of CD-R's or RW's for the money it would cost to get a decent MP3 player.

Well, let the laughing start. :D

I bought the Ipod Mini 4gig. I was playing with the Rio Karma and some others and I didn't like the feel of them. I didn't even like how big the 20gig Ipod was. I want something small, that's why I love my 10gig ipod.

I didn't get too screwed on it.....it was 249 with a free 20 dollar gift card. I'm still gonna try to RMA my broken ipod and then sell it when I get it back from Apple to recover from some of the losses. If I don't like this ipod, I got 30 days to find another mp3 player. But for right now, I just want something I can bring with me to New York.
