MP3 organizer

Guys, So I just built my new Windows 7 x64 media center i3 530 based HTPC. Got about 90gb of music. About 15% is named correctly and pulls up or already fetches the album covers correctly. The rest of my collection (up to about 8 years old) is improperly named and etc...

Can you guys please suggest the best software solution to rename all my mp3's correctly so MCE will pull the correct meta data and I don't have the junky 'no cover art' default folder under 'My Music' in MCE.

I'd really appreciate it, there are so many choices when I google for this type of software.

It's a very annoying process to fix all those tags and artwork. I've used tag&rename to do this and it works reasonably well. I haven't really used other programs recently so I can't say that it is best.

If you have a consistent folder scheme it will help a lot. tag&rename is often mentioned. I've used mp3tag with good success. Musicbrainz can help if your organization is totally fucked...but it misses sometimes too, so it's not a 100% solution (or wasn't when I used it back in 2003).

Once it's organized correctly, WMP (and WMC by extension) will have much better success at re-organizing your music (set to overwrite existing information in the options), getting album art, etc... Inevitably you're going to have to put in some manual intervention. But once it's done, it's done. You shouldn't have to do it again.

In WMP, right-click on an album and select find album info...it works fairly well.

I always use MP3Tag to clean up the filename mess first, then once its renamed how I like WMP finishes the job 95% of the time by properly tagging it and getting a cover.
