mp3 car stereo?

Does anyone have reccomendations on a car stereo that plays mp3's?

IMO, aviod the MP3s. Get a basic CD deck and save a few bucks...

If you want to get something cool you might consider xm radio. Good quality and you dont have to carry insane amounts of CD's with you.

Also to awnser your question anything kenwood is a good choice. Its what I am loyal to.

Looks like a pretty slick deck. Looking to put it in a jeep wrangler so I won't need DVD controls and the like. Sounds like a pretty good deal for $299 though.

Thought the whole idea of burning mp3's to cd was that you could fit multiple albums on a disc therefore reducing the amount of discs needed to carry?

I have the Kenwood MP8017. Had it for about 7 months now. Sweet deck, I highly recommend it. The thing NEVER skips and it seem to be able to read even heavily scratched disks without a problem.

I have a friend that has an AIWA one, I don't think you want it. He has problems with it skipping a bunch and it takes forever for it to start reading a disk when you first put it in.

I use my tapedeck and a normal mp3 player. I had a compaq PM-1. Don't recommend it for your enemy, it sucks that much. I would just do that if I were you. Small enough to put in your pocket, so nobody wants to bust your windows and take it

Yeah, I have also been considering getting a deck with an input and then buying a portable mp3 player that I can listen to in class.

Double the money on that one though!

Yep it is. I have used MP3s 100% for about 3 years...until the last week I came to the true realization that I am finally able to appreciate - significantly - the difference between an Mp3 and a CD. Maybe it's cause all my mp3s are 128 kbps Anyway I had to buy a couple cds last week for the car because I wanted to sacrifice nothing!

A buddy of mine is getting the $229 JVC mp3 player - or I guess got it today, for his car.

Any players out there play OGG format? I rip all my CD's to that format since its better than MP3. I also try and download only 320kbps or 256kbps mp3

I have the Rockford Fosgate deck (i think it's like SX9000) and it's killer, I love it. It was pretty inexpensive too, less than I payed for my old Pioneer, and that was just a plain CD deck. It's nice not having to carry around more than a dozen CD's.

i have an Aiwa cdcmp3.. but i would say avoid it..

there is no shock protection.. while it runs fine on mp3's but if i put a cd in it does tend to skip often.

go with kenwood or JVC.

The JVC has no problems with skipping, with both MP3 and regular CDs.

I encode most of my MP3's at 160 and 192 kbps, so they are pretty close to CD quality. I definitely do notice a decrease in quality compared to the original CD with some songs though...

Ditto, it elimanates the need for a CD changer. Each disk is like a 12 disk magazine that costs about a quarter and is easy to change and store.

I think I only got my JVC to skip once, and that was because my Dakota was just about airborne and coming down on uneven surfaces. (if not actually airborne)

How about MD players? I have a portable MD player so I was thinking maybe I would get myself one of those. Whatever I do I need to probably do it soon. The car I am getting is a 1980 mercedes and it has the original radio. The radios were supposed to suck in 1980 and buy todays standard I bet you could get something better in a happy meal.

I remember car stereo mp3 players couldn't skip through the actual songs themselves, only from one song to the next. For example, you couldn't jump to the middle of a song. Is this still true? I remember someone telling me that '2nd gen' players would have this corrected.
