Mozilla's Flash-killer 'Shumway' appears in Firefox nightlies

Based on my use of the plugin, it's no killer. It may or may not work, just like every other Flash replacement. Better to just say no to Flash. In honor of this thread, I'll uninstall the proprietary plugin like I've been threatening to do for awhile. Screw Flash.

Such as bank websites or the such?
I don't see why bank sites would need flash. Both of mine (Royal Bank and CIBC) work without it. I usually have it disabled, but enable it once in a blue moon to get some "outdated" things to work. I don't think iOS and Android even allow flash.

bah..so tired of FF and flash BS
They should've stopped around FF 16-17
but no..
They wanna make it more betterer and break it.
..and have done so @ least 9x since then.
PS: Latest Firefox is very vulnerable and sucks.
You can't even opt out of automatic upgrading which breaks your browser.
That is crap.

Really? I turned mine off. I hit "Alt" for the menu, then went to Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Update -> "Never check for updates". It's actually not useful at all to let it update on it's own for me because my computer uses the same image each time it turns on, and I just save a new image manually whenever I feel like it (as opposed to everything updating on the HDD on it's own in real-time).

I've never had a "necessary" site require Flash. It's usually stupid video sites, and I'm probably better off without stupid videos anyway.

PapaJohns.com needs it, to create-a-pizza (graphical version). Otherwise, you can't choose which side of the pizza to put toppings on.

In Ffox and ESPN3 you need Flash player for sure, most IP tv chan will need Fplayer.

Also if you're a Amazon Prime member you need either flash or silverlight to watch streaming video. On linux based systems even pepperflash(chrome)won't work so you have to use FF with flash enabled.

Vulnerable to what?

I'm not sure how disabling the auto-update feature would change anything other than making you even more vulnerable than you apparently claim to already be.

I've said it before but Chrome very likely gives you the best chance with Flash if you need it (its sandbox is very good). This does not make it infallible but it should give you the most protection out of all the available options.

Do they give a reason for it? It seems strange that it wouldn't work on the only "official" flash version on linux.

The official version of flash on linux(11.2 I think)works fine when streaming video through Amazon. The problem is Chrome uses it's own version of flash called pepperflash and it is not compatible with Amazons streaming service on linux.

As far as I know no official reason why has been offered from Amazon.

Advanced/Update/
Switch to Never Check for Updates.

Works fine here. I have always had this selected, never an issue.

I personally am glad for the security updates since 17.

I can understand GUI complaints. I personally like the latest, but fortunately, there are several options based on FF for those who don't.

Actually, you can choose which side of the pizza (left, right or whole) for toppings without flash. It is just a simpler interface.

I'm staring at the proxy settings page in firefox right now...

Tools > Options > Advanced > Network, very first option at the top is "Configure how Firefox connects to the internet."

Just because you don't know how to use the software does not make it bad software.
