I just downloaded Thunderbird but can't receive e-mail. It seems it wont recognize any passwords. Is it possible to disable the password feature in thunderbird. I don't need any password protection and didn't use it for Outlook Express but I don't want to use OE. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank You Very Much Chris

What do you mean by not needing password protection? Do you mean that you don't have to supply a password to download your e-mail?

Not quite sure what the problem is. I had a situation where the outgoing mail server was trying to use a password, but in the options panel, I turned off authentication for my SMTP, but if you're having trouble receiving mail, the only thing I can think of is to right click on your account name, go to the properties and see what you have set for logging into your mail server.

Jman, I mean I'm not worried about anybody checking my e-mail as it's just me and my wife in my house. In OE I didn't have to use a password to download e-mail. I don't remember what I did to disable it though. In options, under saved passwords there is a box marked Set Master Password. I never set a master password. Would this be the reason I can't access my e-mail? I'd rather disable the whole password deal and not have to deal with it.

You probably told OE to save your email password since I don't know of any ISPs that would let you have an account with no password. If you don't know the password it would probably be easiest just to call your ISP and have it reset. If you wanted, you could sniff the password with something like ethereal since POP is all plain-text.

Thanks guys. Nothinman you were correct. I reset my password with my ISP and that solved the problem. I checked the box to remember the password and it now works just like OE. Again Thank You!
