mozilla pop-up blocking and anandtech

in order to pm someone, I have to allow "unrequested popup windows". I think this is because clicking the pm button reloads the pm page, which automatically pops up the window, so it appears "unrequested". could this behavior be changed so that pm'ing works with popup blocking?

I think it used to work, but i'm not sure.
 
To be honest, I'd be looking for solutions on the mozilla side of things first. The response here will likely be "works like a champ, mozilla is a niche product" or something 😉
 
mozilla is behaving properly... fusetalk just appears to be behaving like a pr0n/warez site by using what appear to be "unrequested" popups.

maybe I could bugzilla an "allow popups from these domains..." option...
 
well, pm'ing using the lock icon in threads works, as does for buddys, the problem is ONLY with the "send privatemessage to" box that has the button you click which reloads the page and opens the popup.

unfortunately i can't think of a better way to do it, since sending a pm by username currently requires first looking up the member # and then sending based on that. changing it to work with usernames instead of numbers would probably require a fair amount of backend work.
 
CTHo, first off fusetalk is not behaving like a "pr0n/warez" site. To explain:

When you enter a nick and hit send to send a msg from the pm page, it has to reload the page to do some checks and then spawn the msg window with the right information. We can't help it if mozilla has all of a sudden decided to block js windows spawned from pm code. If mozilla is behaving properly, maybe someone can explain why it works when the "popup" blocker is off? Also, why would it work with ns4, opera, ie4-5?

Even better, the javascript function to open a pm in a message is EXACTLY the same function used when sending a pm by entering a nick, the only difference is reload the page to do some checks, which we sure aren't taking out to satisfy an obviously flawed "popup" blocker.

nah, thats not the problem. the problem is if I want to pm someone random, like anandtech moderator. I managed to pull of an 8-post (as in, double post but really bad) somehow, so to pm "anandtech moderator", I clicked the "no new message(s)" link near the top to get to the pm page, then typed "anandtech moderator" into the box. then you have to click a form submit button, which cannot be ctrl-clicked.

zuni - the difference is that the popup normally is the direct result of an action, such as clicking a link, whereas the other method of pm'ing someone results in a popup that appears unrequested (happens on page load, not the result of the user doing anything specific). as I said before, i can't think of a better way of doing it (without avoiding the use of popups altogether, or at least there).... so I bugged the mozilla developers 😀
