Mozilla "Calling it Quits" on Thunderbird

My parents used to use Outlook, set them up with Thunderbird on their new PC so they didn't have to pay for Outlook and they haven't had any problems. I don't think they even know the difference really. I like it, though I use mostly webmail myself.

I use the Eudora varient of Thunderbird. I'm puzzled by Qualcomm's approach to the project though. Qualcomm granted staff time to work on the Eudora TB interface but didn't allow access to the original Eudora codebase for the project. So Eurdora TB is no where near as robust a client as the old Eudora. I wonder if the old Eudora code had third party sources such that Qualcomm wasn't at liberty to give it away.

Email and calendaring are a very important service, so the market has evolved and technology have advanced faster than thunderbird can deal with. For the best experience email clients are better than webmail but Outlook is many years ahead of thunderbird, perhaps a decade ahead, and competitive free clients are provided on desktops and phones by Microsoft, Apple, Google. Thunderbird does not even do calendaring natively I gather.
