ok. i'll keep this simple. my old windows install was corrupted, so I repartitioned the free space into another drve, and installed windows on that drive. Since then I've realized that a chunk is unrecoverable (registry and such) but the majority of the drive is fine.

the bootloader still lists the old install as a boot option, but no matter what option (normal both safe modes etc) it will reset the computer. what I was thinking was I rename the old windows folder and just merge the drives. there is a minimum of things on this install of windows, but all the juicy data is still on c:

so do you think windows will flip out if i merge the two drives?

Im no expert, but... i would make a partition for ''stuff-mp3,jpg,etc." and dump it all there. Then start to play with the os partitions. Sound like a potental destaster, format and re-install from sctratch deal to me.

Never merge partitions with Partition Magic. That is a recipe for disaster!

Either repair the original partition with the XP recovery console or if not possible, as suggested backup the data on another partition or drive and re-install.

Just copy the data (not windows) you need from the old partition to the new one. You can access both partitions if you boot from a live CD, like BartPE or Knoppix. Or if you can access both partitions simultaneously, you can write the data out to a CD or external drive, and later copy it back to the new partiton.
