I am getting ready to move to DC. I have grown weary of the job market in Atlanta and have friends in the DC(SilevrSpring) who have offered me a place to stay while I find work. I have contacted several placement services( Icon Freelance & Boss Temps ) that specialize in my field(graphic design) but I need to find a headhunter. So does anyone know a good headhunter who handles Graphic Design or Multimedia in the DC area? Does anyone have any additional suggestions for places to look?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

I'm in IT, but All I had to do was put my Resume up at Monster.com, and I was beating them off with a stick.... I still get some responses, and I haven't updated my resume up there for a year and a half.... There are tons of jobs up here in the technology sector. I'm in gaithersburg, but most of the tech jobs seem to be out toward Reston...

You should do well up here. I would try to find a job close, and I mean, close to where you want to live. We have some of the worst traffic up here, it probably has a lot to do with the higher salaries and cost of living. The monster.com route worked well for me, a lot of offers. Be wary of the cost of living though and difficulty in finding a place to live. If you want to live by yourself you will pay for it.

Thanks for the info guys. I had done a Monster resume but not recently so I am updating it now. I have a roomate who I plan to move in with in January. My friends have let me know about the whole cost of living thing and the traffic( Atlanta has bad traffic too ) and I am used to that. I have had a couple of responses from the placemment services but I want to make sure I am doing everything that I can to be completely prepared.

Thanks again
D

Live close to where you work. Also, try to live in a place that does not require you to cross any of the Potomac River bridges to get to work. As backed up as these get, You'd think they were ferries instead of bridges. Especially the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

I lived in the DC area for 5 years without access to a car, so it's very possible to survive around here on metro access only. I hope you're getting a good deal on your rent in a not-too-run-down place, I remember the last time we went apartment shopping, it was either way too expensive, or way too nasty.

I think it's nice up there. My gf is in the IT field also and currently lives in Springfield. I go to school in NYC and it's such a nice break from Manhattan

Not sure what you guys mean about high cost of living...I suppose you live in the suburbs...correct me if I'm wrong. But, I do know what we paid for our house and land brand new in Mary's Land would have gotten us a shack with a sixteenth of an acre out here in Chicago. And this is a single income, government worker income family, too...

Oh, well...

hey Spook, you in g'burg too eh? I personally don't like it here.. then again, that's from an 18yr old's viewpoint from seeing this place grow to an overcrowed traffic infested area... altho, the job market in IT is good :) And Montgomery County is so dang on expensive :(

<--- Works in Reston ... and I enjoy a lovely 15-minute "counter" commute from Oakton. :) But then again, I pay $1100+ to rent a 1-BR apartment.

There are plenty of ops out here on the WESSSSSSIDE, but I am not familiar with your trade. What are some typical companies who hire (outside of a graphics department within most any company)? Or, you could go and spruce up things at AOL. :)
