Moving to Victoria, BC? Help! (Edit: rent aid, perhaps?)

Well. Things don't seem to be working out too well here in Oregon. We just got our 72 hour notice. 🙁

My dad wants to move to Victoria, Canada.. But we have no idea whats involved. Once we got up there, what would we do? Would we have to become citizens before we could start looking for places to rent, or what? Been trying to find information regarding this on the web, but I can't even find rental listings for the damn area. Could we find a place to rent, and then deal with the paperwork and all that of immigrating? Is that what its called? lol..

Do you think it can be done in 72 hours? Or should we look at our options down here?

How large of a place to live are you looking for? Apartments (over 1 bedroom) are very hard to find right now, condo's seem to be fairly easy to find (and morgage rates are very good right now). If you're looking for a house - I've no clue what the market is like, but I'd imagine you could find someone who'd take your money fairly easily. Do you know what area you'd be looking for a home in?

This was the best resource I could find for you. If you're going to be using the internet to look for a place, remember to try google.ca. 🙂

Edit: Remember too to plan for the ferry schedule when you're moving. If you're coming from Vancouver on a weekend, be sure to be *very* early for your sailing.
 
We would like to rent a 2 bedroom house if at all possible..

See, it's not like we have a whole bunch of money.. or we would just pay our rent, and everything would be fine. 🙂 Sigh.. This is sh!tty..

The problem is we don't know anything about Canada, really.. and what would be involved in moving there, especially spur of the moment like this.. Thanks for the site though, even though they only seem to deal with selling houses...


 
Well, if you can wait till May, have I got the deal for you (I'm moving out of my bsmt suite when school ends)... 😉

You may want to check out http://www.brownbros.com/, they're an apartment place, but they may be able to help you out with where to start looking for a house.

The only thing you need to know about Victoria is that its filled with old people - and old people are very annoying to share roads with.

Well, he's always kinda wanted to move to canada... was kinda thinking that maybe this would be an opportunity to kinda start new up there.. but we don't know if its possible to just go up there and find a place, like you could moving from place to place here.. without being a resident, or whatnot..

I dunno, it doesen't look like its going to be possible.. I dunno what we're goin to do, lol

😉 Go to Vancouver instead. It has a much better job market, and as far as I know the housing market is much better right now too. You'd probably be able to find a place to live in PoCo, or Maple Ridge fairly easily - though the morning grind from Maple Ridge to Vancouver is horrible :frown:.
