avoid north county. Cheaper, but be prepared for 1-2 hour commute both ways everyday (traffic insanity). Best places to live to avoid general traffic are:

Anywhere along the 15 (if you work near anywhere near the 5).

EDIT:

oh and ya, mission valley. You're close to all the major freeways and routes.
Ocean beach has this really cool atmosphere to it. It may be a bit too hippy for a lot of people, but once you get over it, it's really chill.

PB is just damn too crowded lol.

I love solana beach. Quiet beach town and not as congested as other areas..but going to and from work from here can be stressful due to the lame traffic.

I'd really suggest you live very close to your work though (if you can afford it)

Everyone thanks for your input- Ive generally been searching the craiglist postings for a place- ANy other places you guys recommend?

I am thinking of subletting a place for first couple weeks/1st month to get acclimated here and to find a more suitable place-

I guess that's the best idea?

Hmm...Mission Valley huh?

Thanks again for all the input!

Lived there for 13 years and LOVED every minute!!!!!!

Avoid the beach areas for living. Most want to live by the beach thinking thats the way, but its a traffic nightmare getting into and out of the beach areas. Very high crime!!!!

Hillcrest is very nice. Thats where I lived.
Living near a freeway on-ramp is the key to getting around fast. Like within a few minutes of a ramp.

North park can be nice. Downtown areas have a lot of military, and can be a rough area.

Crime is high out there, especially car break-ins. Get a good car alarm, a real good one.

And scams are the best I've seen. Don?t be surprised when someone knocks on your door at 11pm claiming their mom just had an attack and was rushed to the hosp. So this person pleads for you to borrow them $10 for a cab to get to the hosp to see their mom. And crying all the time. Some of the best wanta be actors I've ever came across.

Or the guy who made a box with a slot and a sign saying ATM DOWN, USE BOX.
And hung it next to an ATM machine.
People actually put their deposits into the box, that this scammer retrieved later.
Yes, that actually happened and was in the news.
Or the apartment for rent ad, where some guy rents a first class apartment for a hard to believe low rental price. He collects many cash deposits from want to be renters. And then disappears, having had no connection or ownership of the apartment in the first place.

Some of the best scams I ever seen. Trust NO ONE...

Balboa Park is nice to visit. A huge selection of things to do. Its the place to be on a sunny weekend day. Blacks Beach for the nude sunning experience. Just don?t have any glass containers. You can be nude, but ticketed for having glass pop or bear bottles.
South Blacks you'll find the surfers. Mid South are family areas and nudist. Don?t be shocked at seeing gram and gramps strolling along nude with the 4 year old grand child.
Mid north area is military mostly. And the north area is mostly gays.

Boy are you lucky!!! But consider it the melting pot for the countries wealthy.

A drive up to LA for the days strolling around Hollywood Blvd is fun. And catch a movie at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. But things turn weird right after dark on the blvd. The scum comes out.

A drive into Mexico is also a must, but avoid TJ and go directly thru down to Ensenada.

Downtown has a lot of military? I'd say the complete opposite... Its quite expensive to live downtown and I'd say most of the people living downtown are professionals. As for it not being safe... Maybe you lived here a while ago? Downtown SD is very safe. Where I live in little Italy it is unbelievably safe and clean. Every morning there's people picking up the streets well lit, and I walk around all the time alone night and day and have never not felt safe.

Must be pretty confident you'll get an offer, otherwise you're putting the cart in front of the horse don't you think?

Im already a bum- things can only go up! =DDD

How is point Loma? Thanks guys- I've lived in NYC for the past 5 years- nothing will surprise me- we've had those sketchy mofos in NYC since I can remember- I get worried when guns are mentioned tho whch it hasn't yet so I am kinda glad-

I have some interviews lined up and I guess I am optimistic but I will have no job, no responsibilities, couple of friends out there, easy living for a month at worst =D But then again I do not want to go back to living with the parents so I'ma work my A$$$ off to get a job even if it means being a gigolo for some mami's lol maybe i'll go hang around SD's medical schools and try to pick me up a bread winner with my geeky glasses and heart of pure gold
