I just installed xp pro on a 5 gig partition. by default, my programs and documents and settings are also on this drive. i want to move my programs to another partition completely, and my documents and settings to another one also. simple moving of folders does not seem to be the best way to do this. What is the proper way?

I did something really dumb. I only gave windows 5 GB, and now I can't move my documents and settings. I figured I would just put all new programs on a different drive, but I really want to move my documents and settings. do i need to re-partition?

what you want to is just keep your windows partition as it is unless you want to install a hole bunch of programs. You can create another partitions, but you can only put into that partition things that don't require a registry entry. For example you can put your data, music and things like that. Instead of saving to my documents save your data to another partition.

I hope this helps,

I believe Partition Magic has some function that automatically searches the drive for any kind of reference to the path of the program, and changes it to the appropriate drive letter.

I haven't tested it before to see how well it works, but I'm pretty sure you can do that in Partition Magic.
