Space on mt friends computer is filling up he has a usb HD he would like to move prgrams to the other HD so that it does not take space on his main HD how would we do this

It's not all that easy. In most cases, every program has to have all of its registry entries changed. PartitionMagic used to have a seb-program called MagicMover that could do it.

I have done it the old fashioned way - I uninstall the program, then reinstall it on another drive also with a folder called "Programs." The after that I did a Registry scrub just to clean up the residue.

Maybe someone knows of some new gee whiz software that does it. ???

As stated massive registry changes (near impossible to do). All the programs would have to be uninstalled, all the data saved, then reinstall all teh programs (in their new location), and their data.

Programs keep track of where they are installed (drive and folder) so that they can find the parts that have to be loaded into memory, etc.. If you move a program it won't be able to find what it needs and will not run.
