moving out of state and need suggestions

Hello all...
Currently I'm living in Texas and I have decided that is time to find a new city to explore. Last time I moved to a different state, I packed all my belongings in my 4 door geo prizm, and hit the highway to texas.
After 5 years in Texas, moving won't be as simple as packing everything in my car. However, I don't have so much, but I do have a queen size bed, futon table, and one mid size couch, and im sure after all packing is done, maybe 3-4 boxes full of junk!

I have heard that those moving trailers cost a fortune, and well, is not like I have that much to move. Driving a Uhaul in the winter doesn't seem like the greatest idea either, but perhaps that will be my end result

. I'm sure many of you have moved across state lines and well, was wondering what to do, avoid---in short, any tips u might want to share!!! thanks and happy holidays!

Rent a uhaul and tow your Geo with it.

Goto Vegas.....and sell your crap you cant fit in the Geo....

You could check in with a van line like Allied and see what they would charge to load it up and drop it off for you. If you are moving to & from a decent sized city that has pretty frequent trips to/from them, you could just toss it on the back of the truck and see what they charge you.

Depending on how nice the items are, it might just be better to sell them before you leave and just buy new once you get over to the new place. For a truck rental you'll be looking at a couple hundred bucks + gas. If you go with a moving service you could be looking at $1000+.

I just moved 1500 miles from a 1 bedroom apt. and rented a 10 foot truck which cost about $1000 total for truck and gas. I drove my car down first found an apartment then took a 1 way plane trip back to get my stuff so I wouldn't have to tow the car. The main question to ask is your stuff worth more than the cost of a truck? If I hadn't recently got a new bed I wouldn't have bothered with the truck.

Whatever you do dont rent a uhaul unless you see the truck first. Every uhaul i've ever rented has been a POS. Budget, Penske etc... have nice trucks though

thanks for the ideas!!! Actually my geo died now i have a honda element, and no everything wont fit there!!! What does POS stand for?

We've tried everything but the professional movers. I prefer using uhaul. Another thing we did was use www.upack.com where ABF freight drops a trailer at your place, you pack your stuff in as tightly as you can, and ABF comes and picks it up and delivers it to your new place. You only pay by the linear foot of trailer used.

POS = Piece of Sh!t

UHAUL = POS

Friends don't let friends rent uhaul.
