Moving mouse while USB is active causes Windows freeze

Mouse: Logitech MX518
Windows: XP Pro SP3
Motherboard: EPoX 9NPA+

Whenever there is high activity over USB - mainly reading or writing files to USB storage - and I move my mouse, Windows freezes completely. The only recovery is a hard reboot.

This has been consistent over three installs of Windows, so I have to assume it's either a problem with the mouse + Windows or the mouse + my motherboard's USB.

I'm currently using the latest available BIOS I can find on Google, which is newer than the one on the EPoX site.

Ideas?

If your having that much trouble with it then i would either start using a PS2 mouse or replace the motherboard. Sounds like that board has a querk in the chipset that is affecting USB.

It's an old/board computer, it's not getting replaced for better or worse. PS2 is not really an option either.

I'm going to try a PCI USB card. Hopefully that will help. As far as I know the PCI card should take care of everything USB and not involve the motherboard's USB at all.
