And I am preparing a budget for all my monthly expenses that will come up.

How much does food cost you per month on average?

You will never be able to stick to your budget, figure 30% of your wages as breathing room. That will tell you if you can afford to live on your own or not.

$15/day average, $450/month. Less than $15 most days, the average gets pushed up because I like to eat out.

Tell me you aren't living there alone!

My wife and I spend about $250-300 together total.

Just don't go out to eat and youre food expense will go way down.

this question has so many variables in it.

for instance how much do you eat?

How often do you eat?

Is this just grocery budget or eating out too?

What kind of diet do you have? Do you mind eating peanut butter and jelly 4 times a day?

Please provide more information.

I spend at least 300 for groceries. Another 200 eating out(at least)

I have to eat alot though. 6 times a day. Not junk/processed/crap foods either. Eating healthy is expensive and time consuming.

Really? How many meals are you eating per day? That's our total for my wife and I, but that doesn't include eating out.
We eat a lot of seafood though, so maybe that's why it's higher...

$182 per week, plus dining out. Me, wife, 18mo daughter. We can't afford (health-wise) to eat cheap, boxed, high sodium and highly-refined starches. If you eat nothing but frozen pizza and ramen, it's a whole lot cheaper. In any given week, we'll likely eat pork, fish, chicken, beef, and occasionally vegetarian. Healthy vegetables are expensive (corn, peas, and potatoes don't really count, neither do canned vegetables of almost any sort). We eat squash, zucchini, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, garlic, green onion, collard greens, (lots of) spinach, brussel sprouts, asparagus and good leafy (I don't allow iceberg lettuce in the house) salad. I take a lunch every day, including 1-2 pieces of fruit.

With the child, we wind up throwing a lot away that she won't eat. I'm including diapers and other disposable necessities in this count, as well as personal hygiene products (shampoo, toothpaste, etc).

We can't really afford it, but we can afford worse health even less....

Worst case for me:
~$10 a day for lunch x 5 days a week x 4 weeks = $200.
~$10 a day for dinner x 7 days a week x 4 weeks = $280.
$200 + $280 =$480

I'd say on average probably $400 a month. This isn't including the random nights of going out which increase dramatically when I started living alone so some months it'll be way more ($500-$600).
