I live in a basement with a walkout exit and my own back patio. It's been fun having all this space, I don't mind it at all. I like that it's way cooler down here in the summer, and I can have sex without disturbing anyone. ;) Roomies aren't loud at all above since their rooms are on the third floor (mid level with kitchen/L.Room separates us).

LS8 brings up most of the pros/cons for each. I do worry about security a little, so I put a deadbolt on my front door (latchless, only a key can open it) and a latched one on my bedroom in case sht goes down. I'm not too worried about it though.

Thanks for all the replies. Look like the majority is for upstair.

The only thing I don't like about upstair is it will be hot in the summer, especially down south here. I don't have any heavy stuffs (except for the queen bed).

I would MUCH rather be on the ground floor.

-Easier to get in and out. Especially if the ground floor has its own private entrance, that's so nice.
-I can actually use my HT system. Subwoofers go through floors a whole lot more than they go through walls/ceilings. In fact. all in all you worry a lot less about disturbing others.
-I am not bothered by other people - the noises they make, whether or not they can see me through my window, etc
-Not as hot in the summer (although yes, cooler in the winter)

I'm sitting here in my penthouse apartment (fancy word for upstairs). Top absolutely. In addition to what the others said, if there's a plumbing leak or the toilet overflows, stuff goes down. No fun.

And the view is better.

AGREED.

Especially about the plumbing leak part... bad experience there...

People living in the ground floor apartment were robbed three times in the couple years I lived in an eight unit apartment building downtown. I lived on the top floor and never had a problem. Sure did get tired of those stairs, though, especially at laundry time :p

less people walking by, seems less likely for a break in, much quieter

I feel sorry for the apts next to the entrance where the mailboxes are -- and especially sorry for the one with the recycle bins right outside their window.
They get to hear everybody come in, check their mail, put bottles in the recycle bin and then let the 20lb lid slam shut. If they wanted to sleep before 10pm... too bad; plus the inconsiderate people that use the recycle bins later than that

top!

All the apartments and condos I have lived in have had in-unit washer/dryer hookups. The only time I had to use the on-site laundry facility was to wash comforters and blankets to large for my own equipment.

There's pros and cons for both but all things considered I'd take the top.
