Moving help !!!

I might be moving into california after a month or two. Now I wan't to buy a new car and was wondering if I buy it out in texas which would be cheaper but when I take the car into CA would I be liable for any additional taxes etc. I heard somethign about CA emission or whatever. I heard that on new cars they impose tax etc and it turns out to be more than what i would be paying in CA. Has someone had such experience ? What about old cars ?

Didn't they just repeal that car tax? That was one of the Governator's promises.

At least for the most part, yes I believe so. I payed ~$190 at the DMV for my '98 vehicle rather than the $508 it was purported to be on the bill. That's less than last year.

There is no problem registering a 49state car in Cal. as long as it's used, with I think,
over 2500miles on it. Most newer cars are 50state anyway......:sun:

Emission law in California is a lot stricter than a lot of other states. I would recommend you make sure the vehicle you are buying meets California's emission requirements. Btw, you still have to pay for the DMV registration fee either way (whether you're bringing it in from another state or buying it in CA). Yes, Arrrrnold has put a stop on the ridiculously high registration fee soon after he took over the office. It's not totally done away with, but until everything is finalized DMV is charging the old rate right now.

I will be getting 04 civic. I think thats MPFI and should meet the
norms
