Is their any major performance gains one can gain from moving from a Sandy Bridge i3 2100? My i3 seems to be keeping up with most tasks, but was wondering if I should start looking at an upgrade and what is on the horizon. Thanks.

I don't know. What are you doing with your computer? Do you have an SSD yet? And what's your motherboard?

You could upgrade to an i5 or i7 on your current mobo, or something Skylake. If you do decide to upgrade, do you have a budget?

it should still be close to a new Skylake I5-U, so it's pretty decent for regular usage I think.

I do have a SSD. Just checking to see what is out there and the performance increases. I have started to game a bit, but it has been older titles and not taxing games due to being out the game for a while. Except drive rally which does not seem to be too bad on the processor. Guess I may stay put for a while.

Heck if you have a motherboard that can overclock buying a i15 or i7 sandybridge might be a good idea if you are running into some performance issues.

An i3-2100 will show its age on taxing sites like dailydot. That site is basically a PC benchmark where you just scroll and look at how smooth it is (or isnt). Ebay searches with 200+ results also can be quite taxing. Certain video websites (ahem) seem to be getting more and more taxing on a cpu. If you are seeing lots of tiny scrolling stutters, even after the page has "loaded", then you might enjoy a cpu upgrade.

Core i3 chips are more then enough for basic usage.Have had a i3 2100 and it held up well enough even for gaming. Some titles may push it harder but the ones i played performance was good enough.

I got obvious improvements in gaming switching to my i5 2500 non k,but in the end i could have easily been happy enough with the i3 2100.
