Moving cable modem

Greetings all,

I have a question about cable modems. Is it possible to move a cable modem from one residence to another provided they both use the same Cable company (without the cable provider finding out.)

Thanks for your time...

I believe it requires a special splitter on the cable wiring to hook up a cable modem. So I would say no.

Generally, no, because cable modems have a fixed i.p. you can't move them around, because of a dedicated line. I am with GTE and the cable coming to mine is not interchangeable, even within my own house. Check with your provider, as it may be different for you.

Don't know bout you guys but with Road Runner, all you gotta do is plug it in the cable anywhere it's at. No special splitter or anything. Since it's DHCP all you really need is the modem for free internet access.
