The 'invention' of movies is one of the greatest presentational achievement of mankind. It has the ability to stir your emotions with laughter, sorrow, empathy, happiness, etc... through immersive combination of both audio and visual...

Let me share some of my all time favs that clearly made me want to get up and applaud as its credit rollls...

A Beautiful Mind
Lion King
Gladiator
A Requiem's Dream
Forest Gump
Braveheart
Matrix
(not so much in a moving way though)

I'm sure I'm forgetting some few classics..

Aside from the obvious for me (LOTR), some other ones are Gattaca, Shawshank Redemption, and Contact to name a few.

Ah, the shawshank redemption.... how could i have forgotten...

I can't say the same for Green Mile. I was sort of dissapointed when the whole movie suddenly became unrealistic an hour and half into the movie: when the black guy *absorbs* disease by breathing it in.... I was expecting some non-fictional plot like A Beautiful Mind

Titanic
Life as a House
Matrix
Independence Day (it's moving in a "triumph of the human spirit" way)

on the same horizon, Armaggaedon was pretty impressive, despite being a pop movie
