Movies: Director's cut better than original?

JEDI

most of the time yes.
ie: Batman v Supes, Watchmen, Kingdom of Heaven

no:
Blade Runner (no voice over), Star Wars eps IV (Han shot first!)

unknown (ie: Havent watched yet):
Butterfly effect

wished there was a list of movies that also released directors cuts.

You should know that with your comment about Blade Runner, you have lost all credibility with anyone that knows anything about film.

Unfortunately for Batman v Superman, I have no desire to even see a directors cut because the normal cut made me not care at all.

um, yes. that pointless voice over is what ruins the theatrical cut of BR. Virtually no one will agree with you.

Good call on those first three, through. I haven't Bat vs Sup, either version.

i dont mind the voiceover on BR. maybe because it's the first version i saw and i liked it anyways.

also you guys keep referring to this "Han shot first" thing but i don't understand what you are talking about.

Terminator 2: Yes

I particularly liked the scene where Sarah and John are taking the chip out of the T-800's head to switch the learning mode back on; I thought it added a lot to the back-story.

what I didn't like about director's cut was they showed the T-1000 starting to glitch

I prefer the original where it was just an unstoppable force right until the end

orig eps IV in theaters in 1976 had Han shoot greedo in cold blood. greedo didn't pull out his laser or anything.

Lucas revamped it w/modern special effects to make it look like greedo shot 1st and missed. and han killed him in self defense.
meh

It's been so long since I've seen the theatrical cut, I can only remember it always having the glitch...

Robocop Directers Cut ... more ultraviolence. Verhoevven at his best! Slightly better than censored "R rated" version.

Terminator 2 Directors Cut ... not really any better than theatrical release, mostly just has more effects/CGI stuff.

Requiem for a Dream - Directors Cut, much 'dirtier' vs censored "R Rated" version.

I think its important to distinguish between "extended editions" (LOTR) and Director's Cuts. Sometimes a director will actually cut the length of a film in the director's version if that is the original vision (the DC version of Bad Santa is an example). Some things that are called "Director's Cuts" are just marketing labels for extended or unrated editions.

The most epic Director's Cut of all time has to be Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut. That is a one of a kind edit, much like a Youtuber would do.

Personally I prefer when the Director's Cut makes a movie a better movie. Kingdom of Heaven is the obvious example, as it goes from crap to great from cut to cut. But also Once Upon a Time in America and Payback improved greatly in the director's versions.
