Major League was better.

The undoubted, undisputed sequel winner was Star Trek 2 > Star Trek 1.

The question is does it qualify since it is part of a series?

Wrath of Kahn does make up for the mind numbingly horrible suck that was ST 1.

X-men 2 (1 was just so blah, 2 was highly entertaining! Nightcrawler's white house infiltration is one of the best openings)

Toy Story 1 was a classic. Fail. Shrek 2 is debatable. Agree on X-Men.

I will add my opinion:

Debatable: Rush Hour 2

Definitely: Bad Boys II

It's pretty rare these days for a sequel to surpass it's predecessor, especially now since it seems like any movie that does well or becomes popular usually gets a sequel that doesn't come close to the original. There are some 2nd-parters that I do think are either more watchable or simply better then the first, most of which are B-movies where it's not really that hard to be the best however. These are my candidates, pretty much off the top of my head:

Aliens > Alien

Aliens > Alien
Tremors 2: Aftershocks > Tremors

umm no, you fail

Oh come on! Aliens was great with the marines, guns, and technology! Same with Tremors, the remote controlled car-bombs were great, not to mention it had so many funny moments throughout.

Alien was a suspense film. Aliens was an action film.

yes and it was better then 2

in terms of the Alien Series

3 > 1 > 2 > 4

and in no was was tremors 2 better then the 1st one, 2nd was better then the 3rd but not the first

Wait, you just said that Alien 3 is the best one? That immediately bans you from discussing this further. Well that and the fact that you actually watched Tremors 3.

I disagree with all of the OP's choices.
In general, movie buffs/critics agree that the best sequels are:
Godfather 2
Empire Strikes Back
Road Warrior
and maybe Wrath of Khan

Kill Bill Vol. 2 > Kill Bill Vol. 1
Major League 2 > Major League
Short Circuit 2 > Short Circuit
Tremors 2: Aftershocks > Tremors
Under Siege 2: Dark Territory > Under Siege

The only arguable one in that list is Aliens vs. Alien which I'd submit as incomparable since they are vastly different movies in style and content.

The rest....no. NO.

your under seige one I have to strongly disagree with. part 2 was lame as hell compared to part 1.

american pie is wrong as well, part 1 is the best in the series by far. die hard is also questionable.

and while all the bourne movies were good, I liked part 3 the best.

come on! this is too easy. the point of American Pie is boobs. those movies have no other merit past that. the boobs in 1 far outclass those in 2. Shannon Elizabeth already got naked... Can't out-boob that one.

Rambo: First Blood Part 2

wrong. on many levels. first blood was a movie that should have never had sequels.

I totally agree. First Blood was a great movie. All the Rambo sequels sucked, defiled the original, and should never have been made.

Terminator 2: Judgment day > The Terminator

Terminator 2 was just so.... campy. Playing "Bad to the Bone" while Arnold dons his sunglasses. So many of his catch phrases from T1 reused to comic effect. I submit that T2, while an amusing action movie, is incomprable to T1.

Why? T1 was a serious (as serious as the subject matter can allow) take on the story line, sans any comic relief. An unstoppable killing machine from the future is after you! Thats it. No comedic relief, because its not supposed to be funny. Its supposed to be scary and suspenseful, which it was. T2, obviously wasn't going for suspense/thriller, but action/comedy (with some real cool special effects).

Two entirely different types of movie...can't say one was better than the other.

American Pie 2 > American Pie
Disagree, but not all that big of a deal.

Escape from L.A. > Escape from N.Y.
You have GOT to be kidding me???!!! Escape from LA was complete and utter CRAP...you couldn't pay me enough to watch it again.

Die Hard With a Vengeance > ALL Die Hards
Definitely better than 2, but then almost everything is. Other than that, it's a tossup.

Major League 2 > Major League
Are you freaking kidding me???!!! 2 was a total waste of film.

Short Circuit 2 > Short Circuit
Just die now. Right now. Without hesitation, you must die.

Under Siege 2: Dark Territory > Under Siege
No, on second thought, death is too good for you. You need to be tortured for the rest of eternity. Most importantly you need to be kept from EVER seeing a movie again, because you have absolutely no tasted whatsoever.

Didn't much like Shrek 2 really. It was ok, but nothing compared to the first.

Eh, I don't know. Rocky Balboa was actually pretty good, and the previews for John Rambo look interesting enough anyways. I'll go see it unless I hear disastrous reviews beforehand.

Unfortunately the shakey cam ruined it utterly, making parts 2 and 3 unwatchable. So it really doesn't matter how good the plot was, or anything else.
