Movie questions: Hannabel and SOTL

1.) In SOTL Lecter was said to have made "Meeks??" kill himself by swallowing his own tounge". How is that possible? He was in a cell with no sharp object so he couldn't cut it out and swallow it.

2.)In Hannabel what did Lecter say to the guy before he started to cut off his own face? "..Would you like a...."

1. You can probably swallow your tongue without detatching it from your mouth if you really tried. Otherwise, he could've bitten it off and then swallowed it.
