waits for K1052's light to go out.....

yeah, I've done it a few times. But if I do it, I always buy concessions (I never buy concessions when I go to see one flick). That way, at least I'm not completely ripping the theater off 🙂 for me, anyway...it assuages all guilt...

oh I've been keeping watch over this thread 😉

As long as concessions are purchased and the theatre isn't at peak capacity its not a huge deal. Now when a bunch of people have sneaked into a sold out show, every seat is taken, and we have a couple dozen actual ticket holders standing around be prepared to feel our wrath.

I do this with a slight variation: I walk out of boring movies, walk around the floor to see what's running on the other screens, go to the bathroom/smoke one in the smoking zone/get a Coke and casually walk into my screen of choice. The guys rarely seem to notice what door you originally emerged from.

This is always how I end up seeing some movies for the second/third time.

what will you guys do--twizzle us to death? 😛

anyhoo, that reminds me of when my brother went to see Temple of Doom for his birthday party (way back when...). They were bringing couches in from the lobby. I always wondered how a movie was oversold...maybe it was theater hoppers...or maybe they just wanted to sell extra tickets?

Remember the hammer scene from Casino?

Yeah I did that once or twice. The only time I got in trouble in a theater was the period between when south park came out and when I turned 18 (probably 6 months or so). The theaters got really strict about checking IDs after South Park came out, so we would buy tickets to see a PG movie, but go to the R movie.

I did it a couple of times when I was younger (of course my mom worked at the theater and we got in free anyways). I actually don't think I ever just watched movies one after the other, but if a movie I didn't particularly like I would switch to the other theater. I remember doing that with 8 Seconds (the bull riding movie) and the first Home Alone movie which I had already seen but liked (hey I was 5 or so at the time).

It's so easy at the theater I go to (and use to work at), the problem is that after one movie I'm usually spent and just want to go home. And yes, I see many movies by myself which makes it easier to get away with, but they're usually non-comedy/popcorn flicks that require concentration to fully appreciate it, something that can be mentally draining after 2 hours.

So usually if I plan on doing it I'll take a chance with the first movie and coincide the ending of it with the beginning of another one I feel strongly that I'll like. So towards the end of the first if it's not interesting enough I can skip out early and hop into the next theater on the agenda a little early. I won't go into any more specifics though since it looks like detailed posts are being deleted. 😛

ah the bathroom is inside the movie complex for us. so theres no ticket guy to go through.

For both theaters that I go to, the bathrooms are in the main lobby which the only way to get to the hall(s) with the theaters is to go past the ticket person. But the ticket person isn't there until the evening shows, so if you're there in the day, it's not a big deal.

Although I still keep my student ID from college for extra discounts ! Problem is, I tend to go after work and half the time they ask if I have an ID... sometimes they don't (probably because I look like a werkin' man).

whew...i was worried that it would be the shower scene from american history X.

It's pretty easy to do this in my area where the movie theatres are actually 25 screen multiplexes. Besides say blockbuster movies on the largest theatre room on opening night/weekend, the place is so big and has so many showings of the same movie they don't bother. They either don't care because they will never run out of seating and or they don't want to pay an employee to check everyones ticket stub.

did this one day back when I was in college and couldn't convince the boss of my current job to give me a few days off so I could make a flight home worth it. so i went to the theater around 2 on xmas eve and left at around 11 after watching I think 3 flicks and having way more popcorn than should be humanly consumed.

interesting website, but why does your cousin claim that he is the inventor of a "new and exciting" past time that has been going on long before he was ever conceived?

also a bad idea to set up a website that explicitly aids in "criminal" activity.

Criminal Activity ma arse, just private message me all the details. Moderators can't stop a thing. 😀

You think not, eh? Now where did I put that ban stick? I know I just saw it around here somewhere.

Uhmm... why is allisolm going after 'theft of services' posters and not deleting the OP's link? I mean, the only skill involved in doing this is being nonchalant enough not to be seen by the ushers or, especially, managers. The OP's link, however, is a useful tool for the service thieves because it gives them a schedule (even though the long wait times make it kind of retarded, you don't want to be seen loitering).

I worked as an usher at a 20 screen multiplex years back and we didn't really care about 'movie marathoons' so much as the annoying kids who would loiter around on a weekend night seeing tons of movies. They were obnoxious not so much because they were stealing service, but because they were annoying hooligans to the other, paying customers. We paid a cop to come in and flush them out of the building.

The theater doesn't lose any $ if you take up a seat that was going to be empty, anyway, and if you justify your marathon by buying concessions, they REALLY don't care, 'cause that's where their focus is on making their $. Theater management really has very little control over ticket sales, but have much more control over concession sales. This means all the pressure is on management to increase concession revenue instead of ticket sales. They spend MUCH more effort on making sure the concession staff upsells & doesn't steal than on sneaky customers looking for free movies. So, if you steal the service, but buy the food you are actually helping the numbers and therefore job security of the theater management.
