I am a complete noob for making movies- but I like Windows Movie Maker and did a few things with it - its easy to use - but its option are very few and its capabilities limited. For instance, its output options are limited, and the quality of the movies are poor, if I try to make storyboard - and import a jpeg the resolution in the movie is terrible, even when movie maker displays a crisp images it gets fuzzed out in the movie. I do photography with a hi res camera and if I wanted to make a "story" with the photos, I would want to show the resolution, not be limited to 640x480.

I have tried Nero, and its awful. It might be powerful, but it is certainly not intuitive like Windows Movie Maker.

Any inexpensive suggestions? I am not trying to impress Spielberg, but at the same time do not want to spend hours on a project, and my projects may be few and far between.

I am using Windows XP and that new Windows Movie Maker Beta is not available for XP.

I actually still use Intervideo's Windvd Creator Platinum. I think it's now Corel. You can get your hands on it free here or many other places No support for it but it's pretty intuitive and a solid product. I don't think it's around so much anymore so it's not future proof but all these "trials" can't be found at various sites.
