Is there any good software out there that I can turn some of my .avi files into dvd movies with a menu screen and whatnot? I tried using windows movie maker and it would not accept my files.

i am currently using vista ultimate x64

nero vision allows you to create dvd menu screen but it is not free. If you have Nero Burning Rom Ultra 7 that comes with dvd/cd write drive.

There should be at least a few to choose from. I use FFMPEG for converting from AVI to MPEG2, seems to work well. From there I use a paid program to create the DVD.

AVI <> DV AVI. I suspect you have a DivX file. Use a converter to make it DV-AVI and then WMM should be able to ingest it and export it to the DVD maker.

hmmm---- I am trying to remember what I heard about WMM and 64-bit Vista. Something is different than 32-bit and I cannot remember what.

Off-hand, no. Your friend Videohelp's tools section is your friend. VirtualDub may do it with the codecs loaded, but might try to default to uncompressed DV, which is huge... (more than 13GB/hr - way more). My editor handles it natively, so I have not usually had to do conversions.

jeez this is sounding more complicated then it has to be. is there any software out there that can convert my divx movies to avi and then I can put them onto a dvd with a title menu and whatnot all built in? instead of downloading a converter, etc?

If you were running XP or Vista 32, I would say probably Pinnacle Studio 11 (10.7+ is certified for Vista IIRC - you buy 10.x and download the latest for v10. V11 is announced, but not available until late May). Not sure about 64.

Studio 11 specs

Vista WMM to DVD is cool. The default DVD with moving menus was kick butt when I was testing it in beta.

ok, i got nero 6.6 installed. how do i make a dvd movie from an avi that I have?
i would also like a title menu, etc.

Are you sure it's not just the codecs you're using? I'm fairly certain that WMM can open divx/xvid/etc.. files for me on XP. I recommend using the CCCP [de]codec pack, which is based on ffdshow.

well, i downloaded a program that was able to convert the files from divx to either mpeg2 or avi. i have the files now in those formats.

i can put them into wmm but I have no idea how to make a dvd menu screen where someone can select which video they want to watch (when its burnt to a dvd).
