My wife got hooked on Windows Movie Maker 2, but it crashes all the time. Is there a similar but more stable program available somewhere? She doesn't want an Adobe-class video editor.

Never had WMM crash, but whatever. There mere fact that it can't burn DVDs is enough reason to use something else.

Do NOT go near a Pinnacle product. I got version 10 for free and still feel like I was ripped off. Ulead or Vegas are going to be the only consumer products that might be better.

But if WMM is crashing I'd look into finding the cause of that first cause it could be a sign of a bigger problem with that machine or OS installation.

It's being used on a stock Dell 4600 machine with a 2.8ghz Pentium 4 and 512mb ram. It's a very stable system and uses XP Professional. I've had issues with WMM crashing on other systems as well. As far as Pinnacle goes, I purchased Studio (version 8) with the PCI capture card and it's been one of the most unstable piece of software I've ever used. The capture card is extremely good and the software is really nice and easy to use, but the bugs make it a no-go.

So...I like the simplicity of Movie Maker and Pinnacle and don't want the complexity of something from Adobe. I'm having the hardest time finding a good alternative. I'm perfectly willing to buy it, IF it works well. I've already wasted $100+ on the Pinnacle system.

I use to to Studio 7 and 8 before I purchased Liquid Edition, and then moved on to Final Cut Pro. But, for an application for less that $100, Maybe the lastest version of Studio might be the way to head, or Sonys Vegas. I've never used Vegas, but I hear good things.

As far as Studio goes, it was a littel buggy for me (cashed randomly especially with big projects) but the interface was simple and I made several wedding, vacation, and goof-off videos....

I would just recommend DL trails of all the suggestions mentioned in this thread.
