Movie Editing Programs?

Hey,

I'm making a movie for a class and I need some programs to edit it. Adobe Premier Pro and Roxio Videowave have been reccomended but they are both not free.

Is there any free alternative to these programs? I just need something really simple to add transitions, edit sound and add some effects and stuff.

Even if they are not free, I'm just curious what are equivelents to these programs? Expensive or otherwise.

Thanks in advance.

This may work best for you. It may be tricky at first but it's pretty easy to learn, and since you get to try it free it won't cost you a thing.

do you need just simple cut & paste editing, or something more? For simple stuff, check out VideoReDo. It's free to use for a month, I believe; after that it's $50 to purchase.

For sound, you could use goldwave and Besweet to encode the audio to AC3. DVD *players* can use the MPA/MP2 audio output from VideoReDo, if they can play VCDs; surround recievers (or at least, my onkyo TX-SR501) cannot. The reciever does work with the AC3-encoded audio, though. Besweet is free; Goldwave is another $45-$50.

For actually authoring the DVD, you might want to look at TMPEG-Enc's DVD_Author. I forget what the license cost is off the top of my head though.
