But that error doesn't sound like a X error.

What is the make and model of the monitor?

Also does it work if you run metacity instead of Beryl?
 
It's the Westinghouse 22" LCM-22w2 LCD model. I love it so far besides this problem..

As for Beryl I could never get it working, I didn't try that long because I know Feisty Fawn is due out in April when I will have allot more time to play with Ubuntu. I'll give the 16bit a try..
