Moved to Durham, NC

After making the drive from Michigan to North Carolina yesterday, I'm finally starting to unpack and figure out what I need to buy for my apartment.

God it's hot down here.

A security system.

I hear that Durham has a lot of terrible neighborhoods. I think they top the other Triangle cities when it comes to local 6PM news on crime and such.

Haha...Durham.....good luck there. My brother in law will be keeping your apartment from burning down (Durham fire-fighter).

As for the heat, yeah it sucked yesterday. Humid summers are terrible here.

yeah I've heard about the crime rates here and I'm living near the Streets of Southpoint Mall. I hear that area of Durham is much nicer and safer.

I'll be working in Raleigh so I hope traffic isn't too bad going east on I-40 in the mornings

Don't listen to all the haters on ATOT, they're just scared of black people. I live in south Durham and it's great. I live 2 minutes from work and 5 minutes from Southpoint Mall. Traffic isn't too bad, but you'll be joining everyone else trying to get into Raleigh in the morning. Unless there's an accident, you'll be fine. Crime is only bad near the center of the city. If you drive up Hwy 55 or Fayetteville Drive, past NC Central University, towards the center of the city you can see the difference in wealth. But any city is like that.

EDIT: that's funny you're from Michigan, I am too. What part?

wow, just wow. how did you come up with that?

2 people mentioned about the fact of higher crime rate in durham and all of a sudden they're "scared of black people."

In fact, wouldn't assuming that Higher crime rate = black people be worse than just worrying at the crime rate?

 @ AmigaMan

Well, with the amount of people who only shape their opinion off of stereotypes, crime=black people.
