get a dog since your roommate doesn't like cats...
sure you never see a dog chasin mice on TV,
but i still remember my faithful pup fight away a opossum(sp?) half its size..(a good 8 inches)
dogs can just plain scare away the mice if you're desperate

A friend of mine had mouse problems in his house at college. Him and his roommates (2 other guys) broke out the BB/pellet guns and just shot the lil' b@stards when they came into the open.

<< 8. get an electric pest deterrent - emits a tone that they don't like and also works against insects. >>

They don't work. In school, we tested a few of these and they are not effective at all. We used el cheapo ones from 12.99 to the ones in the commercial for 70 bucks. If you watch the commercials, they don't put mice near the devices to demonstrate what the effects are. If for some reason they do repel the lil critter, they will more likely run to another part of your place where they can avoid the tone.
If you do decide to try this route, get one with a satisfaction guarantee so you can return it if it doesn't work for you.

Ok so i went to the leasing office to complain and the maintence guy came out and checked for small holes and cracks...he left some sticky pads in some locations and is getting the exterminator, who by the way apparently comes every monday each week, to come next monday. I think hes going to be putting packets down that smell like oatmeal but in actuality it has poison in it. great...now ill have mice dropping dead...but thats better than having them run around my place. Im also thinking about getting a cat or a smart and small dog....but i really cant deal with the shedding or the barking.

go down to the pet shelter and ask for a mean cat that's been living on the street for a while with short hair. Siamese comes to mind. The more street-wise the better.

well if you get a dog or cat, PLEASE remove the glue traps. we used them one time for spiders(it worked pretty good) well one night we hear our cat going off in the guest bedroom. under the bed is the cat. covered in the sticky glue. he was freaking out trying to get off of it. long story short, be very careful with the glue traps. and yes the the cat did survive after a trip to the vet.....

Ok, the black boxes that conceal the caught mouse seem to work the best, so far ive caught 3 with them baited with peanut butter. all 3 in the kitchen...how yummy. the exterminator came and all he did was give me some glue traps and laid some poison bait in some parts of the kitchen...apparently thats all they do as they come once a week paid by the apt management. oh yeah and my roommate just bought a maltese puppy...i dont forsee it becoming a good mice catchin dog.

Do any of your friends have cats? In lieu of adopting one yourself, you could "rent" one for its hunting services until the problem goes away. Or, if you want to get a dog, you might consider a dachshund. Seriously -- they were originally bred in Germany to go into burrows after badgers. :D

The only bad thing about cats, is that unless they are starving, they pretty much just bring the dead mouse to you as a present. Either way you'll have whole dead mice in traps or partial dead mice parts next to your bed with a cat. I honestly believe that you could sue your apt complex if they didn't remedy the situation.
