HI
I am using a new laptop with N band capabilities. And, a heck of a lot more sensitive at seeing other networks.
My old dead laptop would see 3 networks. This new laptop will see 6 networks when I am on the first floor of my house and 9 when I move to the second floor!!!!
My neighbor runs 2 networks and the rest I assume are close by. 4 of those networks show excellent signal strength!!!
Sometimes I think my download speeds are being affected by the other signals. I rarely had problems with the old laptop.
My first thought is to jump to a N band router.
I am sure there are alternatives.
What are your thoughts?
If I made the jump I would like to use a higher power N band router because there are times when I am in the basement. then move to the second floor and when the grandkids visit they bring their laptops and roam the house when they want privacy! LOLOL
Right now I am trying to get as much info as I can to make a good decision and if I do move to the N band I won't buy anything to mid Jan, 2010. After the Christmas bills come in!! LOL
Thanks

Real quick. N uses 2.4 and 5 gig bands. So yor noise problem won't be solved. Read the sticky. You could have better performance with standard n gear but only if you try it.

stick with a good buffalo N router its relatively affordable and extremely reliable. you also donot require a dual band router, but its up to you

2.4 is polluted; switch to 5.8 but realize that you will lose half the distance. always put the AP up top not in the basement unless you don't want them using it.

you will probably end up putting one in the 2nd floor and the basement if you like full signal
