Jwyatt welcome to the 2800 club 🙂

just to fill you in what happens with my CPU...

i can run 176fsb just fine, 51*C, but isnt worth raising the vcore for 1fsb! 😉
i can run 180fsb with 1.91v, 54*C, but its not 100% stable, and the smell of burning silicone is giving me a headache.
rolleye.gif

175fsb is 100% stable. no problems at all using 1.82v, 49*C max. ill prolly keep it here 🙂

I just ordered Alpha from umaxpc.com Came out to be $32 + $7 shipping. This is without the fan but I have some panaflos. They have free shipping if the order is more than $50 if you wanted other things too..

Tried the enermax 465 I have and it was a no go. Couldnt do 175fsb stable. So out it came. Back with the antec. I might sel the enermax and the antec to raise funds for the rest of my project

OH. and setting the memory timings helps bump my 3dmark scores up to 11183!! 😀 I wish I still had the Geforce 4 4600 to play with.

Skawttey your a slaker 😉

Customer called earlier and wants me to replace his XP1700 with a hot P4 😀
He's gettin the old one that will ONLY do 160fsb 😉

Yea i bet it is 😉

Well at 175 im getting random reboots. Took the voltage down to 1.7 in bios which shows 1.6 in sandra and mbm. I think im gonna need a PS....GRRR Temps droped to 55c after taking the vcore down, but i think ill still get that thugsink😉

I'm running my 1.6A at 2719, 170FSB, 1.7volts. I think i'm gonna stick with that, as I am using the retail fan and am getting up to 58degrees full tilt.

My vcore is fluctuating +/- 0.03volts. Should I be worried about that?

Rectalfier,
what is your PSU? I just ordered Enermax 465 and is on its way. I'm looking to OC it to 166FSB at least. I know, I know, I can't compete with Thug and Jwyatt. But hey, I'll try god damn it. 🙂

Ive backed her down to 170 till the PS gets in. Its still running hot though. peeks into 60 at times. The avc sunflower is coming off, and I hate to be a copy cat, but results talk. Im going alpha on this one.

I hope possibly to hit 180fsb with this baby!

dayg - I'm using a Super Flower 370Watt, I heard they come out of the same factory in China as the Enermax, or Antec, one or the other.

Thugs - Thanks, although my system is stable, I was worried it would blow up one day. 😉 Another question, do you artic silver? I have some arctic silverII lying around, but my chip is already stable and doesn't reach over 58degrees with the retail compound.

I think I could hit 2.9 with this chip if I used the 1.85 trick, as I am running well at 2719 with 1.7. Although tempting, I don't want to buy a new heatsink and chance shorting out my chip.

Edit: On my retail box, it says packaged 05/10/02. It's only a month old 🙂

The recent yields on these chips must be pretty dang phenomenal........🙂

Has anyone heard of anyone cooking any of these chips yet from overclocking?

I have hit the wall at 165fsb with mine, but I didn't get one of those 2.4 at stock voltage models either....🙁

I am not unhappy with 2.64gig from a 1.6gig chip though. I have been running at 2.5gig though so I can lower the voltage some. I can only tell the difference in benchmarks anyway. All the games I play, run the same at both speeds (awesome).

Intel did something real good this time.....🙂

once youve used the retail thermal pad - youre screwed.
that waxy retail stuff melts down to a microscopic level.

youd have to "lap" the cpu and HSF clean for the arctic silver to really work 🙁

Are you sure about that?

My first P4 I left the pad on because I was lazy. It stayed on for a day or so. I then pulled the cpu down because of temps and pust some ASII on it. Temps were better. I did lightly lap the HS, but not the slug on the cpu. The temps were higher than ive seen, but the temps on my current cpu are high too. Maybe some of the microscopic stuffs are in my avc cooler as well?

they say it's impossible to cook these chips.

I would have put the Artic silver on originally, but the store I bought it from gave me an extended warranty if they put it together. I'm feeling too lazy to take my machine apart, and it appears to be stable temp wise anyhoo.

Thanks for all your help ThugsRook, you are a wealth of P4 overclocking information!

Got the enermax 651 in today. Will boot to windows and runs for a bit, but crashed when I was going to try to restart @180fsb. Im now @178 seeing what she'll do running prime.

Jwyatt im not sure, but i think the moboard poops out at 179-180fsb 🙁
im still tryin to get 179fsb to run. 178fsb is stable with 1.88v.

Have you guys thought about the Northbridge. Mine gets pretty dang hot. I actually removed the little tiny pad that came on it and put the heatsink back on with AS3. But I am serious considering trying to figure out how to mount it with a small fan blowing on it.

Maybe thats your guys limit right now.....🙂

mine doesnt get hot at all.
28*C idle 30*C max

i have a brand new thermaltake i845 chipset cooler for sale in the FS/FT forum if your interested. you could also just mount a 40mm fan on there.
