UPDATE I just used wpcredit. Had to figure out how to change the memory timings around. Im now running 175fsb memory timings are 2-2-2-5. Not sure if you guys care or not :D

Im goint o let it burn in at 175 then go for 176. Droped the voltage down to 1.8v as well. MBM shows my vcore ~1.71

Hey guys. I just got another 1.6a for a 2nd system.
My original 1.6a was a mid febuary chip running it on a MSI 845 ultra aru. This new one has an April 3 date on it. Temporarily(?) installed on my MSI.

Original chip was running smooth@160(was running 166, but wanted to be simi safe :|). I was astonished, but had to do the vid mod to 1.85 to get there. Temps were running high 50's sometimes peeking into the low 60's. I didnt like it, but couldt bring myself to drop the speed any more and vid to get the temps down.

I got this new chip in today. Dropped it in a couple hours ago and OMFG. I tried to reset the settings before booting by pressing the insert key, but they didnt reset for some reason. It booted @160 AT DEFAULT VOLTAGE!! 1.5v running 160fsb right now. DAHAMN. Temps are high 40's seen 51.5, but for a short time. Im running seti, but plan to prime95 it soon.

I just cant believe at default this thing boots...well..gotta reboot now to see what she will do @ default.

Ordered from newegg sunday and it was here today. Thing is I called to cancel the order. The CS told me part of te order had already gone out, and I would have to call when I get the tracking numbers. Well I didnt call. And here I am! :D

Minor update.

I can run @160@default voltages. MBM shows 1.44-1.48vGrr.. Jumped to 165 no go at default blue screens when loading winxp. Bumped the voltage to 1.55 creampuff went to 168 without worries. Im now running @172fsb with 1.6v. Over that it wont boot. I have not run the tests ThugsRook has ran, and dont plan on running them all the way. Ill find the best possible and work my way down! Its a lot less work than working your way up..you know, the gravity thing ;)

I did run some tests at 170 though. heres my results.

sweet! :D

*i wanted to stretch out all that "testing" and have as much fun as possible :D
i also wanted to provide as much info as i could for everyone since i was in uncharted territory ;) (voltages/benchmarks/temps/etc.) i practically gave a play-by-play report - every 5fsb!

you cpu is doing just as good as mine.

...the road has been paved...

damn, I'm just hoping my 1.6 does 133fsb once I get it together but 170? Wow, that is incredible.

Well I got a1.6a 2 week ago I think, you know time flys, Put it in a P4S533 and it booted at 160 at defualt settings and I have been working on a P4S533 today that I think will do the same so I don't think it is any special date and with the stock heatsink, I do know they take a lot of power, Give it what you think it needs then add more to it, The power supply is what I am talking about not the power going to the mainboard,

OK. As of right now Im booted at 178FSB for only 15 minutes or so. Need to turn the ac back on its getting hot in here ;). Had to do the vid mod to get 1.85v. I think maybe to get to 180fsb im going to need to do a couple things. Probaby need to do one more step on the vid, but then again Im running hot right now high 50's low 60's grr. need better cooling. Im thining about doing water, but then again not sure if its gonna get me the extra umph to be worth while. I have some of the stuff to do it already, but would require another 100bux or more to get it going. Not to mention the time it would take.

Gonna do some benchies at 178 to see how it stacks up.

I definetly thinkg a power supply is in order now. Without a load my voltages are nuts. You add seti or prime to it and good lord watch out!!
Thug, You think the enermax is worth the money? Would you consider any others out there? I hate to drop that kind of cash on a PS when I have this antec and an enermax 465 collecting dust right now.

which voltages are going nuts?
doing the 1.7v wire mod should help that.
the 465W should be enough - unless its old.

Im not using the 465 on this system. Its sitting collecting dust right now. Im using an Antec 400 that came with my antec case. The enermax is about a year old. Thats ancient in computer speak. ;)

+12v is running anywhere between 11.44-11.9. Mostly stays under load 11.44-11.6. Vcore after the 1.85vid mod is running 1.76-1.81v. the others are ranging +- .05v. Except the -12 and -5 which are solid at 12.52 and4.99...oops just noticed the -12 droped to 12.44 for a couple secons.

Update. 178fsb didnt pan out...damnit i need another cooler!! Seemed to do fine with prime for a while, but then when doing benchies via sandra it would hang just after showing the results.

Right now im at 176fsb. for a total of 2821MHZ 1.6a cpu!! SHWEET!

Temps are high under load. high 50's peeking into the 60s for a moment.

Heres my results.

3DMARK 2k1 11000 Madonions servers down. This is my best on the radeon DAMNIT
Sandra Mem 2664/2663
Sandra Multi-Media 11192/13692
Sandra Arithmetic 5469/1474/3429

im gonna let prime run tonight and see how shes doin in the morn

ended up @ 176fsb eh? ;)

the enermax is great - no voltage flux at all ever, and quiet too :)

you are running a little hot!

Mornin report.

Last night it crashed on me during a game. I tooker her down to 175 im so pissed at Intel right now for selling these bum chips;) its ran for 6.5 hours now on prime w/o errors.

Temps are still high. So the ALPHA might be my next step.

So to get stability @176+fsb im going to need:
better cooler $45?
Power supply $165
Possible go for another mb ~$100
The luxury of saying i beat the thug...priceless ;)

Ouch another 300bux to get possible(not guaranteed) 4fsb.
I guess ill call the bank and have them up the limit on the CC again ;) JK

you definitely need a new cooler...60 is high...
I am using the Thermaltake Volcano 7+
The only time I see 50 C is when I set the fan at low speed ~3000RPM (noise is nothing)
Setting it at medium speed ~4200RPM, temp never got above 46 C (ran prime95 for 18 hours with no error, noise is barely noticable)
Setting it at high speed ~6000PRM, temp never go above 43 C
You can get this at PC Club Internet Store for $29.99
