True, but you're also not supposed to tailgate and highbeam someone either :p Think if the cop were the third party, who would he likely pull over, the guy doing 70 in the 55 or the other one up his ass high beaming him?

Both FTW.

I'm guessing he was going somewhere and needed to get there quick, but wasn't authorized to run code. I could be way off base..but we'll never know either way. :p

IMO the OP was lazy and didn't drive to another entrance.

Have you even been to the Best Buy in City, Other where OP lives?!?

no.. but i've been to about probably 2-dozen different best buys from NYC to California.

Unless OP lives in some small, podunk, hick town... nearly every Best Buy is designed the same.

My attempt at humor too subtle, I guess?

I looked to see if I could find a satellite photo of the Best Buy where this event took place.

OP put the kibosh on that.

Only one entrance/exit here, and it is shared with an Office Depot, Bed Bath and Beyond, Toys R Us, and a few smaller stores

Ugh - I had a county sheriff pass me in the middle turn lane going about 70 the other day, then get back into the right lanes and weave in and out of all the other cars. It was also dusk and he didn't even have his headlights on. Just turn your fucking blue lights on asshole, otherwise you're going to end up killing somebody. If he hadn't been going so much faster than the rest of traffic I would have reported his tag.

would you have honked if it were some random car there that wasn't a cop? they shouldn't be treated any differently unless their lights are on, i.e. emergency.

A while back I was heading home at night, maybe about midnight. I lived a few miles from town and at that time there was no cars on the road. For the last couple of miles home, I had this car right on my ass. I wasn't going fast or slow and I didn't know why he just didn't pass me (plenty of opportunities). There were a few turns and the tailgater followed me on every one.

I get close to my house, put on my blinker and slow down while getting into the left lane (it's opposite direction lane but a lot of people do that on these roads) to make the left turn into my driveway. As I'm doing that I put up the finger for the asshole tailgating me. Right then I notice it's a big ol' sheriff.

I guess he needs to run my plate or whatever but there was no need to continue to tailgate me the whole way. I've gotten tailgaters at night plenty and I almost never give them the finger so he was be pretty annoying.

I had a cop do similar to me. They're trying to catch you slipping up because anyone on the road at midnight is a drunk driver.

I was on my way home and it was 2-3am in the morning. I was on a straight stretch of road with very few cars going either way. I see two cars coming in the other direction and realize as they got closer that the second one was a cop. I pass them and look in my rearview as the cop hits the breaks and pulls a U-turn. He catches up to me quickly and tails me for a good 2-3 miles. At that point another car came in the other direction and he left me to go do the same to that car.

Not sure what's so hard to believe. The BB I used to work at had one gated entrance and one gated exit.

Then the right thing to do, which i have done when a cop is blocking an entrance/exit..
Get out of the car, walk up to the officers and state the following:
"Excuse me Officer, i apologize for interrupting, but i am running late and was wondering if you could point me to the location of another exit?"

At which point the officer will either tell you which way to exit, or tell you how to exit.

no need to sit there and honk at the cop.

Personally, I wouldn't treat the cops in the OP any differently than I would anyone else. I would honk at Mr. Joe Blow, so I would honk at the cops too.

If everything occurred the exact same way as OP describes, there is no reason for the cops to be blocking the exit for an extended period of time.

I don't one, I don't see why so much deference should be shown to the cops as going you described.

Just my two cents.

Assuming the story is truthful, I think the cops were being dicks. Either power-tripping or just pissed off or crazy, but they were dicks.
I'm a maniac and have serious anger management problems myself. I would call their bluff. And when it came up in court I'd have my lawyer make them explain exactly what their investigation was all about.
Then my lawyer would probably tell me to stop being fucking stupid.
Then I'd cry.

On second thought, I'd suck it up and just smile at the officer.
