so i'm leaving best buy and trying to drive out the exit ramp to get out of the mall, only there are two local cop cars blocking the exit and entrance with there lights off. there parked parallel to each other and having a conversation.

the problem is i can't go around them and there is no other way out of the best buy lot, i sit there for a good 10 minutes patiently waiting and waiting and waiting. now there is another car exiting the ramp behind me and he is slamming his car horn at me.

so i proceed to honk at the cop cars to move so i can get the heck out of there, again, they didn't have there lights on and there was no other cops nearby.

one cop gets out of his car, walks towards me and said if you don't stop honking your horn, you will be arrested for interfering with our investigation. the cop got back in his car and they both drive off.

so was i wrong to honk my car horn, if there was another way out, i would have went that way and cars don't fly. really don't know why that cop was a total a-hole to me. i should report him, but i'm not.

I would have let the guy honking at me go by and then observe what happens next.

I would have walked up with one hand in my pocket and one behind my back yelling and swearing and threatening them if they don't move.

LOL, interfering with their "investigation".

IMO they were just being a couple of pricks.

I would have asked him to arrest me. I would have loved to see him fill out the paperwork on that.

Are you sure it was 10 minutes? Are you sure it wasn't 30 seconds?

You were right to honk your horn. They were arrogant pricks, and should have pulled into a parking spot if they wanted to discuss soap operas, or whatever.

Well now, couldn't you have just got out of your car, walked up to one of them and asked if they could move to squad car so you may leave?

They do this a lot at my local gas station and minimart late at night. Even the mini mart owner hates those pricks, scaring off her customers. She also mentions that most of the time they'd come in and get a couple of donuts each and maybe a cup of coffee, and just chat until something comes on the police blotter.

What does she sell if all her customers are afraid of the cops?

I had a state trooper tailgate me on the highway for about 15 minutes. He finally passed me and I got to see him tailgate the car in front of me. He was one of those people who hits the breaks every 3 seconds.

Would you boldly step into a store where the entrance is blocked off by police cruisers regardless of what you'll be buying or have in your car?

Funny, our convenience stores like having cops around.

Doesn't sound like he was doing a very good job of pacing if he was hitting the brakes every 3 seconds.

Cop is a douche. The middle of the road probably isn't the best way to discuss an 'investigation'. And just by him telling you this, he was on a power trip. A simple apology and an indication that they are about to gtf out of the way would have worked just fine.

That's pretty standard at late night minimarts.. I don't see a problem as 1) those places are often robbed late at night and 2) what else are cops supposed to be doing if they're not on a call in the middle of the night?

There's never an excuse for impeding pedestrian or vehicular traffic. If they want to use a parking space, that's fine.

They way it was mentioned they were "scaring off" customers I assumed they were just being visible. Not forcibly preventing entering/exiting the mart. I've never seen a cop actually blocking off a minimart, but I've seen them "hanging out" frequently.
