Is this unusuall for a college to provide such a short ammount of time to move in?

The dorms are opened for everyone to move in (all grade levels) at 1pm on Sunday. Classes start the following day Monday) at 8am.

WTF?

Seems a little extreme, but dont worry, that will be the least of the things that you question about your college admins.

I already have a good sized list going:

I got my roommate assignment (and room) YESTERDAY (and that is normal)
I got my tuition bill and the letter daying I did qualify for in-state tuition (10k difference) last week
Every department (admissions, cashiers, housing, etc) sends different packets, so I am getting something for a different department every day or two for the last month.
etc...

They don't want the new students to go out partying their first weekend before they've even stepped foot into their first class. The university I attended opened the dorms on the Saturday before classes. I payed a few extra $$ to move in the day before that to avoid some of the moving madness.

The good thing is that I am on the first floor. The bad thing is my dorm is in the center of the campus and not near any parking spots.

Bring a truck or SUV and make the grass your parking lot, the sidewalk your new street. Drive right up to the dorm door. My dad started doing that after the hell that was my freshman year move-in. Was pretty funny to see ppl's reactions, but it made the job simple!

I just moved into the dorms a few weeks ago. They were open 4 days before classes started.

Guess it just depends on the university.
