Move files w/ no extra HD space?

Hey all,
I am going to be installing win2k on my friend's comp later tonight and he doesn't want to lose mp3s, videos, all that good stuff. I suggested he back them up to CD-R but doesn't have the time or CDs to do it. I was thinking I could create an FAT32 partition w/ PM6 and move all his stuff there then format his main partition and install 2k there so he can still access. Then move off the other partition onto the NTFS, and merge the 2 partitions. Is this a good/bad idea or are there better ideas?

If I do use the 2nd partition, if he has no extra space, how can I pull this off?
Just delete lots of the junk he doesn't use and then create the partition?

Any thoughts/comments/critiques welcome. Thanks!

It's not just MP3s though, its videos and junk too. About 3 or 4 gigs worth. So CD-R might not be the best option

um, do you have to lose infor when you update the os? when i installed win2k from win98, it asked what fs i wanted. I left the fs as fat32. I still had all my programs and email after the upgrade. The person will always have the chance to change filesystems to ntfs once win2k is installed. so leave the fat32 and just upgrade. please correct me if I am wrong about this fact.

No, that's right but upgrading any MS OS has always led to trouble for me. I'm going for a clean install, even though it risks losing his MP3s.

Yeah, definitely burn the CDs. Partition Magic isn't always perfect and can cause data loss (very rarely, but still...). So unless you are willing to accept data loss make the backup 😉
