Holy cow! I got a CABYE 0540 FPMW from Monarch. It seems I finally hit the wonderchip. doing 2800 with prime95 without failure for last 1 hour small ffts on 1.45v. Max temp 42 idle 29-32c on a xp-90 with panaflo. Anybody else here got lucky with a Cabye 0540 FPMW?

My 148 Opteron does 2809 on the third boot took it to 240FSB on second boot, I will see what this processor will do.

Very happy with my Opteron.

Placed an order for the Opteron 146 on Saturday when I saw Monarch's lower price. Package arrived today and the CPU is CABYE 0540. 🙂

I bought the Opteron 148 (Box-retail) from Monarch earlier this week @ $229
It's the CABYE stepping. Running @ 1.35 (manualy lowered in BIOS) @ 2.2 Ghz in an ASRock Dual939 SATA2 w/ an AGP 6800GT. No problems at all so far. Eager to start overclocking as soon as I'm fully installed with all my apps under the new Win XP load. Will keep you posted.
I've heard all the mixed opinions on this ASRock board, but I've had no problems so far.
2800Mhz @ Stock volts!? Yeah baby!! Gotta see if it can be done....

I ordered the same yesterday and should get it Monday. I'll let everyone know what I get (keeping fingers crossed).

Still running great with this board and the Opteron 148.
I still had the voltage underclocked @ 1.35v lastnight when I took the chip to 2.5Ghz.
Memory running @ 178Mhz 7-2-2-2 1T
It never got above 42c with stock fan while "burning". I ran some loops of 3Dmark2001 and Super pi together for about a 1/2 hour and it never even broke a sweat. This chip and motherboard have some serious potential for the investment. Next mark to reach is 2700Mhz... will keep you posted.

Got my 146 from monarch today, CABYE 0540 FPAW, supposed to be getting an ASRock 939-SATA2 from newegg today, gonna try to put everything together tonight if I have time, if not, it'll have to wait for the weekend.

Go on to 2.8.. Mine made it on default..

Bumping volts as high as 1.6 wouldn't take it past 2.9 though.. But 2.8 is nothing to cry about..😀

What HSF have you got?
I ran those numbers with my Zalman 7700 and the Soltek board in my sig.... Temps stayed in low 40's..

I have a new DFI board that I'm going to put the 148 in, with an XP90..

Well... I'm dancin' that jig this afternoon!
I've got the Opteron 148 running @ 11 x 255= 2.82Ghz default volts (1.35) stable.

HTT=600Mhz
Memory=166Mhz divider (volts=high) memory @ 200.03 Mhz
The rest of the CPU settings = AUTO
Fast Writes= Disabled

It was begging me to go higher, so we skipped the 36 hour burn-in and went for it!
The system was stale so far thru, 4 loops of 3Dmark2001 @ 16x12x32x4XAA w/ SuperPi in the background calculating to 32M. We still have many hours of "Burn" to verify but, DAM!! this ASRock/Opteron upgrade has turned out to be the best PC purchase/Upgrade I've ever made... and I mean that. Cheers to ASRock with the finest budget board ever made that competes more then well enough with the premium products out there right now (Nforce4, etc.). I am one happy skunk right now. BTW- This is all with a stock cooler HSF on the CPU not ever getting above 42c.
Great stuff!

I'm curious, how did you guys get your opterons working with your asrock motherboards?

the opteron is only supported on those mobos with the latest bios, which was released on th 11th of this month. how did you get it working if it didn't even come with support for it?

I'm not sure exactly what they mean by "support" in the latest 1.4 BIOS, but my ASRock board came with BIOS 1.20 and it booted up with my Opteron 170 perfectly. Recognized the CPU name string and everything.

I was able to reach 11 x 273= 3003Mhz (3Ghz baby!) last night @ 1.45v (Stock cooler)
I'm pretty dam happy right now... I don't think I will do the vmod.
This is good enough! (fingers crossed behind back, thinking of conductive paint & a Zalman 9500LED HSF).

As soon as I went to 11 x 257 (2.85Ghz), I had to go from 1.35v to 1.375v for stability.
The next step was at 11 x 264 (2.90Ghz), I had to go to 1.425v for stability.
From any settings of 11 x 268-273, it req. 1.45v
Final goal reached was @ 11 x 273 (boards max.? with official 1.20 BIOS???) for 3GHZ @ 1.45v

I did not try to go any higher yet, because of the claim that the board may not go any higher on the FSB/HTT. I just want to burn-in at 3Ghz for now and maybe in the future get really bold.... but this is pretty dam awesome if you ask me!

That is fantastic! Send some screen shots of dual prime/superPI

*Hands you the keys to the 3ghz VIP club*

Especially on air! Pump that voltage and go higher!

I just ordered my 148 opty today - retail , I really hope all the good steppings haven't been taken, anyone have additional info on what's going around now? thanks...

Monarch had 144 retails in stock for $148 yesterday, when I bought one. Just to let you guys know that they may still have some. You have to scroll down to the bottom of the Opteron page to find them.

I should be getting my 144 tomorrow, and my 146 I'm still waiting on.

:| Price went up $50 last night. I had one on order for the lower price, but I cancelled it and went for a retail 148 (already have 2 OEM's -both CAB2E) since I heard they had been (hopefully still are) shipping CABNE's.
