Mouse works intermitently

I moved my PC to other place, which is about 7 feet away from my monitor and keyboard, so I have to use an extension USB hub for my keyboard and mouse.- I notice now that the mouse works intermitently, as it often sleeps about 5 or 10 seconds and then it recovers.- No problems instead with the keyboard.-
Should a powered USB hub fix the problem ?

Maybe. Have you tried swapping devices around? It could be that the port that you have your mouse plugged into is bad.

Is it an Optical or Lazer? If so, try taking a Q-tip and dipping it in rubbing alcohol, then rub it into the "eye" area of the mouse to clean it.
