Mouse works intermitently

I moved my PC to other place, which is about 7 feet away from my monitor and keyboard, so I have to use an extension USB hub for my keyboard and mouse.- I notice now that the mouse works intermitently, as it often sleeps about 5 or 10 seconds and then it recovers.- No problems instead with the keyboard.-
Should a powered USB hub fix the problem ?

Is your mouse wire crimped to the side in anyway? My old mx518 was like that and it ended up being that the wire inside the cable was broken.
