Mouse response

When playing CounterStrike 1.6, I'll get random mouse freezes when I play deathmatches. I think this happens a lot actually, but since DMs are so intense, I don't notice it.

I'm forcing 500hz to the mouse, should I back it down to 250hz or 125hz and try that?

Random freezes are BAD for CS.

It's a MX510, no mouseware, connected via the USB port in the front of my Dell Dim4600.

I get this too with my wireless IntelliExplorer. Except it isn't only in games but while I'm just using the computer in general. New batteries just put in and it's still doing this. I'm going back to wired soon enough.

I think you have the correct solution, get a wire.

IMO, wireless mice, as well as wireless most everything else is junk.

Sorry, get a Microsoft mouse instead of a Logitech. I like the look and feel of Logitech, I have several of them. But I have always had minor problems with them. I have a Microsoft mouse on my main computer and I do not have those same problems with it.

Can't use PS/2.

Cord doesn't go far enough to hit the back.
I'll just try 125hz stock then. SHOULD I be able to notice a difference? I can't right now.
If I do while gaming, I'll go for 250hz.

as loong as your around or above 100 you should be fine, 500 is too high in my opinion. the PS/2 this I sugested cause your USB might "lag" when you have a heavy CPU usage (like in games), but lowering the frequency on the mouse should solve that too..

Wow, this is really annoying...

It still freezes at stock speed, 8MS, 125hz. This is a big problem as I play competetively...

I KNOW the mouse isn't the problem, it's probably the port or a software problem.. Because this is a brand new MX510, other one is in the other computer, and that one had the same problem.

I have another motherboard that I could switch out, but that means I would have to backup EVERYTHING onto my external, which would take a while..

crappy 4600mobo...grr.

if you want flawless performance, get the new Microsoft notebook mouse that has a USB adapter that is curved like a "J" shape. Otherwise, keep in mind, that with the other Microsoft mice, when you go back to using it for long times or even after a restart, you gotta hit the freakin' "connect" button on both the receiver and the mouse, which is very annoying when you forget to do this and you are dying from enemies in a video game.

Again...it's not the mouse, I'm 99% sure. It has to be the port.

But the front port shouldn't be THAT much worse than the back port?
It's still USB 2.0...

uh I thing he is usink a wired mouse.

BTW: is Counterstrike the only game that mouse freezes in? if so i would look into reinstaling counterstrike or maybe playing around with the mouse settings in both windows and counterstrike if your sure the mouse itself is ok. Other than that its hard to say where the problem is, too bad you cant try the PS/2 port.

Yeah, from what I can tell at least. But I only play Counter strike on this computer. Newer games are played on my good computers.

I'll try reinstalling and checking config out.

Then what's the 500 hz / 250 hz / 125 hz? Hertz? Horizontal? I assumed it was something to do with wireless.

my only suggestion is to use ps/2, buy an extension cable or something. I've never been able to get as smooth performance from usb.

from my time playing cs and other games i've never had to mess with a mouses mhz. A mouse is just a plug in item that goes it either works or it doesn't. Try a ps2 mouse to test , other wise i would look into the usb port being bad. After that check if there are any malicious processes running (antivirus , chat programs ets)

It's still happening.

Anyone else know what the problem is? Should I try clearing CMOS? Or getting a 2 or 4-port USB - PCI card?

You might just be lagging. Check your ping (latency) on the server you play on, just sit for a while and see if it spikes at times.

Otherwise you're probably dealing with (as suggested before) drivers, or you've got an app in the background that's stealing memory. I doubt those though because of your statement "it's still happening on 3-4 different computers." What are you using between those computers that's the same?
