Mouse Question

Update: we found a way
The left hand mouse is made by Contour, and it has it's own settings in the mouse section of the Control Panel. The right-hand mouse it a typical MS Optical mouse, and it has default settings, and the left-hand Contour mouse has it's button settings. They both retain their settings, to the problem is solved. Now I just need to get used to left hand mousing.

The company I work for is on an 'ergonomic kick' and they want me to switch to a left handed mouse for 50% of my work. I don't have a problem with that, but I do have a problem with button assignments. On my normal, right handed, mouse the left button is for click, and the right button is for right-click. On the left hand button, I want the right button to be click, and the left button to be double-click. The exact oposite of each other. The problem is that what ever changes I make to one mouse effects both. I can't find a way to map the buttons different on each mouse. Can anybody help?

Glendor...

My first suggestion would be an ergonomic kick to the nuts of whomever had this idea. It would drive me crazy.

That said, I don't know of a way to specify different preferences for two different mice at the same time in Windows. I doubt it can be done.

Wait, wait...

Somebody actually, in all seriousness, asked you to use a left-handed mouse for 50% of your work?

[OfficeSpace parody] "Um, hi there Melvin. We're gonna need you to use TWO mice from now on, m-kay? We think your elbows and wrists will be better off, so, if you could just... go ahead and use a lefty half of the time, that'd be great. M-kay?" [/OfficeSpace parody]

Where on earth do you work?

Yes, we call them the Ergo Police

We have a ton of ergonomic rules, equipment, breaks, etc...

I've traded a pain in the wrist for a pain in the bum 😉

i'm a lefty and i have to use a righty mouse almost all the time. it's about time you learned how we feel! 😉

Required breaks == good.
Required asinine use of two mice == bad.

If they're that worried about it, why not get you eye/head-motion-tracking pointing devices? The ultimate in ergonomics!
