Mouse problems with Linux

I have the MS Intellimouse PS/2 and I have this problem in X. The pointer keeps on move to the top left corner of the screen like something is pulling it there. I don't seem to have any control over it at all and am clueless on why this is happening. I did mouseconfig and chose MS Intellimouse PS/2 and I also did xf86config and chose the same thing for my mouse. Can anyone help plz? Thanks in Advance.

Which version of X are you using? If you don't know, then which distro of Linux are you using?

Finally, did you restart X after making those changes? ctrl+alt+backspace does it.

This is only because the quality of the Intellimouse sucks. Contact the people you bought it from to get a new one. I've seen hundreds with this problem.

Edit: Sorry, the problem I referred to was in Windows, didn't pay attention...

Make sure you have X configured to use the Intellimouse, if so then change it to a generic PS/2 mouse and that will do the trick... 🙂

Everyone, thanks for you input, but I have tried all of that countless times. I tried configuring mouseconfig and xf86config between Intellimouse PS/2 and generic PS/2, I have also tried mixing and matching them, but the problem still persists. And yes, I did reboot and know how to reboot. Anyone else have any other suggestions to fix this problem?

BTW - The distribution is Slackware 7.1 and I'm not sure which version of X, but its the verison that comes with Slackware 7.1

SIlow: Just a little trick to let you find out what version of X your are using. Open a terminal window and type X -version. Also if you can post you pointer section of you XF86config found in the etc/X11 folder this might help.

Roll the wheel up/down a couple times. Its out of sync so to speek. I've had this a couple time with my logitech trackman marble+

...then its probably broken. I have seen this before, as I stated above, a numerous amount of times in Windows.

If the mouse itself is broken, I don't see why it should behave drifferently just because its in Linux.

Go get yourself a new one. You might get it to work for a while, and the it will come back again.

I'm gonna say this one last time: the mouse is NOT broken!

I'm gonna ask this one more time: which version of XFree86 are you using? And what's your video card?
